Google TiSP System

Wow, Google announced two new services today. Google TiSP, a free in-home wireless broadband service, and Gmail Paper. At the Official Google Blog there is a brief note about Google TiSP, also called "Project Teaspoon". A Press Release of it is available at the Google Press Center, but the page of the product have all the information you need it, including the explanation of How TiSP Works with images and a FAQ. And in case of any doubt, contact the Google TiSP Groups.

How can Google offer this service for free?
We believe that all users deserve free, fast and sanitary online access. To offset the cost of providing the TiSP service, we use information gathered by discreet DNA sequencing of your personal bodily output to display online ads that are contextually relevant to your culinary preferences, current health status and likelihood of developing particular medical conditions going forward. Google also offers premium levels of service for a monthly fee

Gmail Paper

The second great news from Google came from Gmail. They developed the free service Gmail Paper, to you receive in paper all your e-mails, including the photo attachments, which will be printed on high-quality, glossy photo paper. There is no limit and no environment problem, because Gmail Paper is made out of 96% post-consumer organic soybean sputum, and thus, actually helps the environment. Now you just need to find some space to archive your Gmail Paper.

PS.: I have one question: Google Writer is a joke too, right? It doesn't sound real, but they didn't classified as April Fools Day.

Upload and share your videos

FINALLY! Google announced that now there is a web-based uploader. That means that if you have videos with less than 100MB you don't need to use the uploader anymore.

I was thinking that something like this would be great for some of the videos that I'm uploading to Google Video. Yes, of the videos, because most of the videos that uploaded to it, including the cartoons, have more than 100MB. The films usually have 700MB and the last Superman cartoons uploaded is average 300MB - I'm going to talk about them in the next post.

While the video is uploading there is animation of four coloured small balls running from left to right. It's nice, but I'd rather to know how much was already uploaded. And one more note: if you add more info to the video, after the upload, like a link to your page, more categories, or producer name, you have to wait them approve the changes to see them. It's not automatic, just the information added before the upload appears until they approve the changes.

Gtalk with pictures

Did you see the latest news of Google Talk? Now you can set your own picture and see your friends' pictures, right from your friends list. And you can also customize the look of your chat conversations by choosing from a number of built-in themes. If you want to test the new features now, here is the instructions to add a picture and to change the theme of chat window. They are nice. I chose the "bubble picture" theme, but if you hated the new feature of pictures, choose a theme without them.

Gtalk - Chat with pictures and theme

Themes, pictures, what's next? I was talking with some friends about new cool features that they could do it. The first suggestion was tool to archive transfer. Since it's integrated with Gmail, could it be a good idea do it via Gmail. Other item that we miss is a conference option, to add more people to a conversation, instead of send the same message two, or three times and talk with a group of people, and not only one, like Skype allows. I would like also to leave a message to friends that aren't on-line. And finally, something that I heard a lot, the users of other IM miss: the emoticons. I can live without them, but I would like to see too more options in the messages, not only busy or available - with customised messages, like the other IM have.

Google Rooms

Philipp Lenssen posted exclusive images of a new service of our favourite search tool, Google Rooms, sent by an anonymous reader.

Google Maps: Zombies

Lifehacker has a helpful how-to article: Use Google Maps To Track Zombies In Your Area. Plot the best areas for zombie huntings, plan escape routes in case things get too hot, even get on the fly directions from your house, army bunker or commandeered shopping mall.

Update: if you are a zombie, or are planning to become a zombie, or have a fetish for zombies, read also at Lifehacker: Geek to Die: How to date the dead, Deathhacker: End of the World? Yeah, Right, Ask MetaFilter Roundup, Picking the right tool for the job and Zombism obviating social networking services.

Google Circles

Google Circles is a free service which lets you explore the interests of groups of people around the world, in your hometown, at your workplace, and at your alma mater. Is that a joke or not? The FAQ says no, but the list of results to microsoft.com, google.com and whitehouse.gov are very suspicious. And don't leave the site before read the Terms of Service. (via Joho the Blog)

Google Romance

Official Google Blog announces a new product: Google Romance - Pin All Your Romantic Hopes on Google. It is a beta product currently incubating in Google Labs, uses cutting-edge personal search algorithms to help you find your soulmate, then sponsors your first Contextual Date with said soulmate-to-be in exchange for showing you highly relevant advertising that just might help Cupid's arrow find its mark. Take a tour, read the FAQ and don't forget to post your profile.

Everybody is talking about the Google censorship episode in China. Few people understood what this is about, but most people is against what they did anyway. But, what does Google say about it? The Official Google Blog gives Google's version on why they felt they had to do that... or what they want us to think they had to. Read it and take your conclusions after.

Google Fight

Did you like of Google Battle? Try Google Fight. The principle is the same: a fight between to word to see with more has more links listed at Google, plus an animation (default) of the battle and suggestions of fights. (Thanks Jerome!)

Google Battle

Google Battle The latest indicator of cultural relevance. No, not really but is amusing. It shows the result of the "battle" of popularity report between two keywords. I tried chocolate VS. wine and wine won for my surprise, because the spelling is the same in Portuguese too. How chocolate didn't win? Nevermind.

Google Pack

Google Pack is a new collection of free softwares developed by Google for Windows users. Yes, just for the evil system, but at least they work with Firefox. This pack is made up of Google Earth, Desktop, Picasa, Google Toolbar for Internet Explore (the browser of the dark side), Google Talk and Google Pack Screensaver. Plus: Mozilla Firefox with Google Toolbar, Ad-Aware SE Personal, Norton Antivirus 2005 Special Edition, Adobe Reader 7(the reader), RealPlayer, GalleryPlayer HD Images and Trillian. There is the option of downloading it all at once or select just what you want. One more good reason to download this package is that you can get updates and new softwares via Google Updater.

Cornucopia Nut Cup

I'm not American, but I'm a polite girl (most of the time) and need/ want to wish happy Thanksgiving to my readers. So:

Happy Thanksgiving

I have some links about it too people that know what it is, for people that don't know and for people that like links:

- Abbott & Costello's Formal Thanksgiving provided by Radio Memories Network.

- Cute Thanksgiving paper crafts: Thanksgiving card, napkin rings, cornucopia nut cup, a bonbon box and The Mayflower.

- Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Flickr (via Flickr Blog)

- Memories Can't Wait selection of a few tunes in the spirit of the day.

- NYPL images of thanksgiving (because NYPL rocks!). There are many Thanksgiving ragamuffins pictures, cards, menus, Hymn of Thanksgiving, postcards and magazine covers.

- Thanksgiving Turkey Optical Illusion: an inventive cooking technique to use with the turkey.

- Turkey Facts: a big list of turkeys facts by i-pets.com blog.

- Turkey Fryers are a Huge Fire Hazard A good film to watch BEFORE you bust out that turkey deep fryer. I hope that some people leave the poor turkey alone, after saw that. (via MetaFilter)

- Two of the many Slashfood articles about thanksgiving: A Bad Bird (about the turkey) and Thanksgiving safety warnings

- WFMU's Beware of the Blog has two links to A Thanksgiving Prayer from William S. Burroughs. "Thanksgiving Prayer" is a poem first included in the chapbook Tornado Alley. Director Gus Van Sant then put together this montage whose power derives almost solely from William S Burroughs' reading and, perhaps, the strange sad-old-man expression of his staring eyes at the end. You can watch also on Devil Ducky and here.

- Wikipedia Thanksgiving article.

Where is the Google Thanksgiving logo? Well, this year they didn't do it, but you can check the thanksgiving logos made on 1999, 2000 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

thanksgiving00_logo.gif

Update: There is a Google logo for Thanksgiving here but I don't know I didn't see it. I also lost the Gmail logo, because I'm using the French version of it (to practice).

Google Notícias Brasil

Yesterday news from Google: Google News Brasil and Google Book Search. Then, the new name of Google Print is Google Book Search. Here is one reason why the changed the name:

When we launched Google Print, our goal was to make it easier for users to discover books. Now that we're starting to achieve that, we think a more descriptive name will help clarify what our users can do with it: namely, search the full text of books to find ones that interest them and learn where to buy or borrow them.

About Google News Brasil, it seems that works fine. It has the most popular journals and sites of news and works as the same way as the English version. But I don't know if the Google News Portugal is also very good to check the latest news. (via Official Google Blog)

The last news from Google, just in case you don't know yet:

- Google Base is a place where you can add all types of information that we'll host and make searchable online. You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base. (via Official Google Blog)

- Google Analytics tells you everything you want to know about how your visitors found you and how they interact with your site. You'll be able to focus your marketing resources on campaigns and initiatives that deliver ROI, and improve your site to convert more visitors. Looks great no? The tools are very good, you can almost know what colours of shirt your visitors was using, but it's not working as programmed for many people. The updates are very slow and I had to wait just 26 hours to get my first results. Let's cross the fingers and hope that the things get back to normal very soon. (via Official Google Blog)

Google Blog Search

After a long wait Google decided launch Google Blog Search. My first impression: really great to me you are you looking to my blog with my nick. Maybe works fine if the name of the blog gives the description of the subject, if you have categories, and specially if you have some feed on your blog. No feed? So sorry, because The goal of Blog Search is to include every blog that publishes a site feed (either RSS or Atom). But many site haves feed too, so how they do this? Good question. And the old posts are not indexed, but they say that will try to do it.

One good feature, that you can find on some other blog search engines: you can sign the feed of some search and for a better result try some of the Google Search operators listed. The Unofficial Google Weblog made a nice review of Google Blog Search.

Of course the others blogs search didn't like and here is what Technorati Weblog says about it (via Waxy). Since that Technorati can't count my links, and everytime that I go there I have less links when the search works I can't see many problems if Google or other search systems are now on the "blog search business". I loved Technorati in the beginning, and I still loving some features, but I feel that they are not hanging on all the blog increase. Let's see what will happen.

With all those competition Steve Rubel created a Blog Search Test to see how fast blog search engines index post and what they index. Till now his Blog Search Test was indexed just by Technorati. IceRocket blog search, Intelliseek's BlogPulse and Google Blog Search "said" nothing about it.

Google Talk

I had known about the today's release, but I didn't know that many of my contacts would invite me to Google Talk. Looks nice, I have a few people now on my list now but it isn't possible to call or chat with non-Gmail users through Google Talk. But you always can send a Gmail invite to a friend. The system of voice transmission is very good, maybe better than Skype's. To know more about it read Google Blog. And go test it.
