Sculpture by Maurizio Savini

The Italian artist Maurizio Savini makes amazing sculptures with fibreglass and pink chewing gum. Mario Codognato wrote about his work:

The sensual act of chewing, the voluptuous warmth of rebelling saliva, the artificial and secretly aseptic fragrance which spreads from the mouth as a promise and missed kiss. The synthetic fleshliness of the pink color, the obsessive square shape of the product unwrapped and ready to be shred to pieces by the power of the tongue, all compete in crashing on the senses. Applying all this to the power and energy of the Sculpture and its history causes a short circuit having the capacity of turning the ludic into stately and vice versa. The strict minimalism of parallelepiped is subverted by the uniform coating with many bars of chewing-gum completely cover it, rendering chewable to desire, soft and provoking to forbidden touch, what was abstract and distant.

More images of his works at Pastificio Cerere Foundation, Olivier Houg Galerie, artMbassy, Arts blog.it, Angel Art Gallery and bellow. (via Notcot)

Speed bento technique: Freezing sandwiches

Some mothers are better than others, I mean, when the issue is kids' lunch box. Biggie, from Lunch in a Box: Building a Better Bento, is one of those dedicated, talented and with a lot patience, mothers and wives, in her case. She makes those adorable lunch boxes in bento style, and shares recipes, tips and techniques of their preparation. She's also a proud creator and admin of those Flickr groups: Lunchbox Recipes and Kid Eats.

Cheeseburger by Nicole Gastonguay

Nicole Gastonguay is a graphic designer, however, she has another talent: crochet. She makes marvellous (and super cute) crochet toys. And for toys I want to say adorable crochet food and animals. It's impossible not love her smiling creations with googly eyes. Seriously. Look at this squid, this robot, this robot hotdog, or this cup of coffee on Flickr. Even the glue is smilling. I just feel bad about this very sad piece of meat.

By the way, if you want to try some of those, here are the bad news: She doesn’t really have patterns. She makes things up as she goes along. (via MetaFilter)

Carl Warner - Photographer

The photographer Carl Warner has a gorgeous portfolio with still life pictures, pictures of locations, cars, nature, sports, people and animals. But I wasn't there for those images, and they worth a visit. I was interested on his visually delicious foodscapes: surreal landscapes made of bread, vegetables, mushrooms, salami, houses made with cheese, fruit balloons and giant trees of broccolis. I must say his amazing manipulated images of fantastic worlds, like in a Italo Calvino's story, must be seen. (via mixirica)

e-obento

The site e-お弁当作っちゃいました (e-obento) documents the beautiful daily bento and other lovely food creations of a Japanese mother. Each has a brief story and a list of ingredients. Some of them have grades for nutrition, design, speed and saving. All in Japanese, but the translator helps a little if you want to try any of them. (via Make)

V Water ad

There’s Something In The Water is a blog, and part of a clever campaign to promote V Water, an English flavoured water with vitamins. The themes keep calm and don't stress are emphasize in the cheerful animated film created for it. The video reminds the Max Fleischer's animation News Sketches, made in the 1940's. The Italian Food Collection - Prosciutto

The agency Cayenne Italia produced a brilliant campaign for Italian Instituto per il Commercio Estero (Institute for the Promotion of Foreign Trade) highlighting two remarkable Italian products, known for their excellent quality: food and fashion. The campaign "The Italian Food Collection" was firstly created to the Japanese market:

The objective, effectively summed up in the title, was to communicate to the Japanese consumer - notoriously fascinated by Italian fashion - that the best of "Italian Style" is to be found in the wine and food sector as well, which boasts top-quality brands. [...] The campaign, which enjoyed a huge success, was considered a particularly innovative, high-impact operation, to the point of winning numerous prizes at the international level, among them the GOLD in the food category of the Epica Award 2003, one of the most prestigious European advertising contests. UN.I.P.I. representatives attended the awards ceremony held in Dublin on 23 January 2004.

Due to campaign success of the visually beautiful and attractive ads, it was possible to obtain the support of the ICE for the realisation of a communication campaign in the United States. Playing with the same concepts, food and fashion, Cayenne Italia created one more great campaign for the ICE: "The Taste of Italian Style". Check the irresistible ads for both campaigns bellow.

Japanese Lunch for Mommy and Toddler

Bento Yum is an adorable food blog about Bentos. Most of entries are composed by pretty images of Abigail’s Bentos and the what's on them, with descriptions. There are also recipes, tips and information of where you can find Bento stuff. Not a fan of Japanese food? Don't worry, there are Bentos prepared with food of other cuisines. (via BB-Blog)

By the way, if you live in São Paulo and get excited with the idea of created cute bento boxes too, go to the Liberdade (a Japanese neighbourhood): they have all this kind of things, including the delicious star-shaped senbei (salgadinho japonês de peixe) on the picture above. I know, I bought a package of them last time I was there.

Counting sheep cake

I present to you the cake of my dreams, a Counting sheep cake made by Andea from Fancy Food and her husband. To made your own, just like that, you just need to bake two cakes, have a lot of ability, patience and following the explanations next to the pictures. Beyond been the cutest thing in the world, those sheep are edible: made with fondant and dark chocolate. I've already made up my mind: that's my next birthday cake. (via TasteSpotting)

I love Pacman sandwich

Cuisine Sandwich is French "gallery of sandwich" and the site of sandwich contest. Any "sandwich artist" is allowed to submit the photos of their creations. Unfortunately there are some people cheating - I saw some stolen images submitted. The prizes are a Macbook and 13 cameras.

Non-artists, my case, can explore the "gallery of sandwich" (virtools plugin require) and download the recipes. Or check the sandwiches submitted by users, their ingredients and the instructions to reproduce the "works of art", And enjoy to vote too.

By Lesia Chernish

My idea of starting a new day on the right foot is to start it with pretty or funny images, since images have a powerful effect (of happiness) on me. i-delicious, the portfolio of Lesia Chernish, has everything to do that for me. Her gorgeous illustrations are equally sexy and funny ( and probably NSFW for some of you). I would like to know more about this artist who likes to draw sexy girls with cakes and Cyrillic writtings, but for now that's all I can say. (via TasteSpotting)

I propose a toast to this post with a cup of red dry wine (my favourite drink: long live to the alcoholic drinks! - The Hamm’s Bear of Hamm’s Beer;
- Captain Morgan of Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum;

Suck My Bic

People have phases in life. I had a phase of destroy pencils biting them, until broken them. I stopped doing that moving to another bad habit: biting pens. I used to destroy the pen caps with an impressive speed, specially in test days. I don't do that any more, because I rarely use pens and when I use them, there is not time enough to start bitting it.

Too bad! The brilliant French designer Clement Eloy developed what could it be the pen of my dreams: Suck My Bic - a pen that has a flavoured candy pen cap. Perfect! It should fill my needs for candy and pen bitting, and it fits and my pens, since I have several Bics on the table. Available in five different flavours, if it was in the marked and I was in the school, I would buy a box of it.

Enjoy to take a look at the other amusing creating of Clement Eloy, like mugs, tables, glasses and his famous Hotdoll, a love doll for dogs. (via Tastespotting)

Dalek and Fourth Doctor doll

From time to time this blog receives visits of people searching for Daleks. Those incredible extraterrestrial mutant creatures from Doctor Who series are much more popular that I imagined. The first time I made a post about the Daleks I had no idea that it wouldn't be enough to cover it. Then, a while after, I saw a very nice tutorial of How to Make a Dalek and IR Control Daleks.

Of course that wasn't enough. Every time there are new stuff about them: crochet and more crochet Daleks (via Quiddity), Dalek cakes and many other kind of related Dalek stuff that fans collect. For fans it's never enough. And to keep you busy for a while, here is a list of tutorials to you make your own Dalek. Chose the material and start working:

Robotic Dalek Pumpkin

- Building a Robotic Dalek Pumpkin: a neat tutorial from Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories for those with more talents, that only cut and paste. It requires an arduous work but it worth it.

- Build your own tiny Dalek army: an easy tutorial, with a PDF version including a Dalek skin, from RMIT University to build a Dalek using very easy to find materials.

- DalekCity presents the history of Daleks and some steps of more elaborated models. But the webmaster must be exterminate, since the site just works on IE.

- Dalek Chocolate Cake: with a lot of labour, patience, chocolate cookies and chocolate you will make a delicious Dalek to be exterminate as soon as you finish it.

- Two tutorials from Scary-Crayon: Genesis of the Homemade Daleks: Part 1 and Part 2. The first tutorial demands some materials very easy to be find, some creativity and time. The second it's even more easier, with coloured Dalek patterns, which original template can be found at The Ultimate Dalek Factory.

White Butterfly Sugar and Chocolate Chain Necklace

According to Food is art, the sculptor Prudence Emma Staite can create artwork in any food substance. Her portfolio presents some neat creations with chocolate: sculptures, games (including jenga), jewellery, paintings, and even life-sized chocolate rooms. You can guess where she got the inspiration for that last one: Hansel and Gretel fairy tale. Those very sweet rooms are composed by chocolate furniture and lickable sugar wallpaper. Ok, sugar enough for one post. (Blue Tea)

More cool stuff made with chocolate: Chocolate for Girls, The Chocolate Molecule and Chocolate puzzles.

The opposite of the weather here bento

The Japanese have an incredible talent to transform everything in something cute. From illustrations to condoms, passing through packages and "plush food". Everything can be kawaii in their hands. That's why a bento site called Cooking Cute isn't a surprise. They have a gallery with several images, also available at Flickr, showing that bentos can be cute too. The enthusiasts can try the recipes and take a look at the impressive list of Bento links and resources. (via The Pet Blog)

Round Candies I, 2004

I don't need of good reasons to buy yummy coloured sweeties, like the candies that Haribo makes. But it's always good to find some new excuse, and the candy photographs by Craig Kanarick are inspiring to it. Candies selected by colours, forms, "textures", from the same package and close-ups. So sweet! I would like to see bigger versions of them, or maybe I should buy my own candies and take pictures of them. (via mod*mom)

He was frightened. Too frightened to move even.

Via Tastespotting I found a delightful blog Fancy food... and silly stories. Written by Andrea - My Life as a Muffin - the blog has silly and very funny stories about food and great pictures. However, what got my attention was one of her last posts with pictures of muffins and little robot toys: The Continuing Adventures of Rodney Robot: Escape from Planet Sprinkle.

That was just one more episode of the adventures of Rodney, the robot toy. He also starred I scream, you scream.. we all scream for.. watery milk solids? and The Adventures of Rodney Robot: Escape from Planet Sprinkle.. I also have to point to Somewhere over the Rainbow, starred by six very coloured members of "the rainbow sprinkle-ninja squad" and their cupcakes.
