That sinking feeling

With a bit of imagination or creativity we can find faces in the common places, like cars, windows, cans, food, walls, trees, clouds, garbage or in and the most surprising places, like a cheese grater. Faces in Places is a blog which collects those images describing itself as A photographic collection of faces found in everyday places. The blog has a Flickr group where you can also share your "faces in places" pictures.

Update: Martin Klasch show me a previous Flickr group with the same theme: Pareidolia. Pareidolia describes a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant. Common examples include images of animals or faces in clouds, the man in the moon, and hidden messages on records played in reverse.

octo-puss garfield

Garfield is damn cool. I always loved this Jim Davis comic, since I was a child. Probably because I always had lived with cats. Cats can be very affectionate in one moment, and totally selfish two minutes after. Seriously? I don't care, they still much better than human beings. If you are not cat lover, the chances of you like and understand Garfiled are low. And ask to somebody else to explain why it's funny won't convince you.

The Garfield Variations presents works of anonymous "artist" who enjoy this character and pay a homage sending images of Garfield variations. Don't expect find some ouvres d'art, just go to have fun. If you think you can make a better Garfield, submit your own creation to the site. (via Yahoo! Picks)

Soup or Hero?

Get a wire, add some objects, some talent and a lot of imagination and you get Bent Objects. The blog is described as This is a collection of things that I make, and images that I take. The blog has a growing collection of images composed by wires, clips and other objects, recreating situations, scenes, other objects, animals and photos.

Bent Objects

Created by Terry like neat modern sculptures, many of the Bent Objects tell a story, beyond that simply recreate a reality: a funny story, an insightful message, sad, or a political message. By the way, there is an "adult" version of the blog, the Really Bent The more graphic, black sheep cousin of Bent Objects.

The Food Value of the Banana (1928) by Lawrence Wilbur

Internet is a fantastic place to find all kind of odd homage pages. And what about a whole site just about Bananas? Why not? Who doesn't love them? Germans love them, as Die kleine Bananenrepublik shows - a whole site about banana images. Artists from around the world love them too. They love so much that they gave me material to make a post about Banana Art. And Americans, do they love bananas? Of course! Specially who live in Washington. They are so crazy about bananas that there is a Washington Banana Museum. The museum's pictures shows hundreds, thousands maybe, of banana stuff, but the site has just few samples of the whole banana universe that you will see in a visit.

Lego Periodic Table

After the periodic table post about it's history and a post with a list of periodic tables I found more of them.

Cherries Toilet Seat

There are some things that I don't know in which category put them, like the Hand-Painted Toilet Seats by Tuesday Cohen is one of those. Weird or art? Tuesday Cohen began drawing and painting as a child, using oil on wood her style matured and she had her first show when she was 18 years old. According to the image above, a very pretty pin-up with cherries, the link fits better in art and curious things categories. (Thanks P-E Fronning!)

September 16, 2005

Ok, let's talk about sex on this blog. First, here is a list with The Absolute Bottom 50 Euphemisms for Doin' It. So it's better you never use expressions like Making Puppies, Docking the Hovercraft or Dancing the Llama with your partner if he / she doesn't have a lot of sense of humour. (via The Daily Pick)

Now maybe you don't know the meaning of some words, but this is not a problem, since there are always some great search tools, dictionaries and thesaurus. That thesaurus is divide in 15 sessions by themes as man, woman, phrases, BDSM, prostitution, romance etc., and has many "old" expressions. More things that I discovered there beagle is nose, a bit of raspberry is an attractive woman, a Dutch Nickel is a kiss, French stuff is pornography and more expressions that I prefer not cite here.

But all this is an excuse to talk about this post: Me, Myself, and I, by Cult of the One Eyed Cat (thanks Sizi). That hilarious post is about, well... you know what.. masturbation with many euphemisms. If you don't like the word, ok, just go to The World's Largest Collection of Masturbation Synonyms and chose other word. There are expressions for men, women, in other languages, a collection with funny expressions and a random generator. Plus, a nineteenth century cartoon "showing" deadly consequences of self love auditioning the hand puppet.

PS.: for some people the language used on the links can be NSFW.

Patent Room: Early Design and Illustration - The art of industrial design. An interesting site with drawings of original patent applications from 20s to 50s. Illustrations and design of architecture, cars, toys and trains. The site has a blog where they post the news.

Still talking about patents visit Patently Silly - The Humor of Invention. It's an amusing blog by Daniel Wright about curious/silly real patents issued by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

The Terror Of Good Intention

Latrinalia: The Study of Restroom Graffiti - Site Dedication to Alan Dundes. He states in his article:

Here I Sit - A Study of American Latrinalia, it is preferable to the term shithouse poetry. The word graffiti is plural of the Italian word graffito which means incised inscription or design, an ancient drawing or writing scratched on a wall or other surface. Since the beginning of time, people have communicated messages through visual means. Back then, if you were lucky, your messages etched in stone, had meaning worth contemplation. Today, some wonder whether writing in restroom stalls in an alternative mode of communications, or nothing more than the defacing of public.

Disney Tattoo Guy

Disney's #1 Fan is George Reiger, also known as "Disney Tattoo Guy" because he has over 1,700 Disney Tattoo's (as of April 1, 2005). His house has over 24,000 Disney Collection Pieces, but there are more reasons why he is the number 1 fan and they are explained on Top 10 Reasons why George Reiger is Disney's Number 1 Fan. On his site you will find also a picture gallery of his tattoos, articles about him, pictures with Disney Characters and images of George's Disney House. Between the articles there are some explanation about his tattoos, like:

So that's where Dumbo is... No, he's on my rear end. But down there I do have Pinocchio and Mickey with a magic wand.

What Shall I Be?

What Shall I Be? is a game from 1966 with the subtitle The Exciting Game of Career Girls. Oh yes, very exciting, but I'm still searching for a lawyer, a filmmaker, a pilotor or an engineer, because there are only teacher, actress, model, nurse, ballet dancer and airline hostess as careers. It's curious and totally outdated and I hope that you think the same. (via Cynical-C)

Interesting tool: Omnipelagos ~ meandering search engine, finds the shortest paths between any two things. I tried the connection between cat and chocolate and this was one of the results:

Cat
[Characteristics / Hunting and diet] Cats do ingest some vegetable matter, such as cat grass or catnip. Explanations on why vary.
Nepeta
[Medicinal uses] sedatives, and as antispasmodics. They are used to alleviate symptoms such as insomnia, stress, menstrual cramps
Insomnia
[Treatment for insomnia / Removing probable causes of insomnia] and similar, chocolate bars and other candy. Drink herbal teas or plain water instead of caffeine-containing liquids.

Walken2008

Walken 2008. You saw this on many blogs before, didn't you? I saw this on everywhere on the last days, and the last time was on Bloglines. Is it real? Or just a joke? I'm not sure, but if it's real do me a favour: vote for Walken, ok?

Update: I'm almost sad with the news on Washington Post the actor has "no intention of running," his rep says, and the Web site, registered in Los Angeles under the name Christopher Walken for President, is "100 percent false." It's not a surprise, but was funny anyway. (via Micro Persuasion)
