Recortable del Papa

The Spanish blog Recortables shares papercraft models with political criticism, created by Sento Llobell, comics illustrator, and Toni Vaca, "speciallist on wasting time". There are papercraft caricatures of George W. Bush - El Carnicero Global, the king of Spain Juan Carlos I - El Campechano, Bin Laden - Ex-guerrero de la C.I.A., the pope Bendicto XVI and few others. They are available to download directly, as zip archive, or using eMule. Bosch's helmet bird papercraft

Hieronymus Bosch is on the top of my list of painter that I think had a disturbed brilliant mind. His paintings full of bizarre and scary creatures are an example of how far can go the human mind and how far the Catholic church went to its absurd ideas of hell and sins.

Among his works, the "The Garden of Earthly Delights" is the one I most like. The reason involve the strawberries - meaning sex, the fantastic details, the numerous odd situations, the colours, the division in three stages, the luxury all over the second painting, situations and the grotesque creatures.

Bosch's letter bird papercraft

It's from that painting that Atom, from Glue² chronicle, got the idea of made two papercraft models: the helmet bird and the letter bird. As you can see, the models look pretty nice, and compared with its complexity, that turns them even more neat. Both models are ready and available to download as bmp or pdo. To open the pdo you will need the Pepakura Viewer, wich is also free to download. The kids won't have more excuses to play of purgatory at home. (via ectoplasmosis)

F-117A Nighthawk Paper Airplane

Throw me the first paper ball who never built a paper plane. Folding paper airplanes in an A4 paper sheet is one of several artistic abilities I have, which also include drawing stickmen ("bonecos de pauzinho" in Portuguese) and very easy paper craft models. The Online Paper Airplane Museum gives me the chance to improve my incredible talent, with links to more than 810 airplane designs, links and list of books. From classic models with images step by step to complex cut and fold models. (via Make)

Sometimes, even images with step by step aren't enough, and you want a video. That's easier: a simple search at Google Video will return thousands of videos. The video below, called "The best paper airplane", is one of the most popular videos and it's also available in steps with pictures here.

Speakerdog Paper Toys series 2!

Oh, what a lazy day is Sunday. I always heard that people love Sunday, but I never was a huge fan of it. It isn't a productive day for me and it goes too fast. On Sundays I have a strange feeling that I'm late for everything, even it been the first day of the week. Strangely, it's also one of those days I don't know what to do and I feel lost if I don't go out. Sunday turned into the day to go to a restaurant, or go to the cinema, or to an exhibition, or if I stay at home, it's the day to read a (whole) book or be hypnotised by TV.

That's why I love internet: you can stay at home in a grey Sunday and do something more productive. Try a new recipe, watch a feature film or a funny animation, play a silly game, answer all those boring e-mails, discover a new book to read, chat with distance friends, search for a new hobby or find some cool stuff to keep your hands busy. And that's my point for this Sunday: keep your hands busy with the following links of papercraft. Check the printer and the scissors and go to them.

Walter Kitty

The little fellow above is Walter Kitty is a character from the book The Secret Life of Walter Kitty written by Barbara Jean Hicks. It was created by the writer and illustrator Dan Santat, who also illustrated the book and it's perfect for all kind of cat person, even the allergic, in his works. (via Paper Forest)

For the group who prefers dogs, Ben The illustrator released a second series of Speakerdog Paper Toys. The series 2 was created by 21 wonderful illustrators, graphic designers and graffiti artists. Twenty one lovely models to empty your printer cartridges. BTW, the series 1 still available at Ben's site. (via Urban Retro Lifestyle)

Furni meet Bigchief

The company Furni has a free cardboard cutout toy in limited edition to download: Furni meet Bigchief. The little paper dude is a collaboration between Milan design company BigChief Design and Furni. It's a series limited to 5000 download, so be fast. Try also the BigChief - The original to download.

The Flickr is Flickr Monkey is there to share super cute papercraft models. Choose a dog available in brown and red, a red, green or blue bird, and a He's so cute on Flickr - Photo Sharing! available in five colours (orange, green, red, blue and purple). To thank Flickr Monkey for the toys, after print, cut and fold it (or them), submit the image to the group Flickr Monkey & Friends. I need a new printer to make a blue monkey to me.

Blue Flickr Monkey Bird

My last suggestion goes to the excellent French blog Agence eureka. It's full of beautiful vintage images, from film magazines to illustrations of children's books. If you have some time, make a deep search on the archives, where you will also find several of images of vintage toys to print, cut and play. Among those preciosities, the last one was a Maquette d'Epinal, a small circus to fold. But my favourite post of last times is about some lovely Japanese paperdolls, who points to three complete scanned cutout dressing books here, here and here.

Dollar kois by Won Park

Wikipedia says:

Paper money from various countries are also popular to create origami with, called "Moneygami". It is common to create the figure depicted on the note itself.

But the first time I heard about Money Origami I had no idea this was an origami style. My curiosity about that origami style was one more time awaken by the American artist Won Park, aka "orudorumagi11" at DevianArt, "a dollar bill folder" with a huge talent. He makes marvellous tiny creations with money.

His dollar animals are two times incredible: they are very well done and they are folded with a single dollar bill "with no cuts, no glue, and no tape." To share his love for money origami, Park also created a group moneyfolders unite. Now I want a dollar bill and the instructions to fold this butterfly. (via Notcot)

Dalek and Fourth Doctor doll

From time to time this blog receives visits of people searching for Daleks. Those incredible extraterrestrial mutant creatures from Doctor Who series are much more popular that I imagined. The first time I made a post about the Daleks I had no idea that it wouldn't be enough to cover it. Then, a while after, I saw a very nice tutorial of How to Make a Dalek and IR Control Daleks.

Of course that wasn't enough. Every time there are new stuff about them: crochet and more crochet Daleks (via Quiddity), Dalek cakes and many other kind of related Dalek stuff that fans collect. For fans it's never enough. And to keep you busy for a while, here is a list of tutorials to you make your own Dalek. Chose the material and start working:

Robotic Dalek Pumpkin

- Building a Robotic Dalek Pumpkin: a neat tutorial from Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories for those with more talents, that only cut and paste. It requires an arduous work but it worth it.

- Build your own tiny Dalek army: an easy tutorial, with a PDF version including a Dalek skin, from RMIT University to build a Dalek using very easy to find materials.

- DalekCity presents the history of Daleks and some steps of more elaborated models. But the webmaster must be exterminate, since the site just works on IE.

- Dalek Chocolate Cake: with a lot of labour, patience, chocolate cookies and chocolate you will make a delicious Dalek to be exterminate as soon as you finish it.

- Two tutorials from Scary-Crayon: Genesis of the Homemade Daleks: Part 1 and Part 2. The first tutorial demands some materials very easy to be find, some creativity and time. The second it's even more easier, with coloured Dalek patterns, which original template can be found at The Ultimate Dalek Factory.

Rolitoboy Mini: Clear Mind

The toy junkie, web designer and "amateur" photographer Charmaine Noellie, aka Junko Natsumi, shows her excellent work which joins her two passions at Junkoseven. Presenting her photographic works, there are three series: The Pony Project, Urban Medium & Spider, and Itokin Park. The last one is my cup of tea, with great pictures of little robots, dolls, graphics, plastic and plush toys.

She also photographed a series with an army of lovely small toys called Tofu Robots, created by Tofu from Spicy Brown. Based on that set I formulated three theories: or the toys are very photogenic, or she is really good taking pictures, or both. Get your own conclusions checking her work. (via Urban Retro Lifestyle)

BTW, talking about Urban Retro Lifestyle, they celebrate their first year with a special treat to readers: two Free “Speakerdog” Toy paper models. Go get them.

There are "just" with the images of his last creations, posts with several pictures showing all the steps and some other posts with videos. Following his posts you will able to make little starts, tesselations, sonobes, a paper box or the cool Torus 555 Phizz illustrated above. (via hoemro)

Big Paper Castle, 2004

A long time ago I stop thinking that works with paper are just simple origami. Now I know that origami can be very complex and that paper is just the bennning for a whole world of fantastic creations. That's the reason why I created a category called papercraft: for always have an excuse to post and explore more about it.

Heaven and Hell, 2006

And it won't be complete without the wonderful paper sculptures by Peter Callesen. This Danish artist not only makes the sculptures; he also sculpts the paper around it decorating it, cutting flowers, leaves and other symbolic elements. In his hands, the paper becomes lace too.

His about explains some of his influences: classic fairy tales, memories of childhood, romanticism and dreams. He also worked almost exclusively with white paper in different objects, paper cuts, installations and performances. (via ToM)

Paper Anomaly (detail) by Jen Stark

Artists can create incredible and very coloured sculptures using pencils, crayons and papers, like Jen Stark does. Working with the colours, shapes and depth, she creates wonderful paper sculptures with beautiful effects. The power of effects of colours is also the base of her drawings, but in the place of paper she uses lines to compose the visual effect. ( via Make)

Hazchem Dunny

This seems to be pretty good idea: Custom Toy Lab: Custom Designer Vinyl Toys, Paper Toys & Plush Toys.

CustomToyLab.com has been created to support all artists involved in the custom toy scene. The site is created by Tahir and Andy as a way for people to view all the great custom toys in one place. Paper craft Robot

What to do when a rainy day destroys all your plans? Stay at home and do some cool paper craft! And I already know a nice story to buy great automata paper models and kits: Flying Pig. Not only know, I have a list of favourites from there: Schrödinger's Cat kit, robot, paper moose, Mexican Peck and now, the new Flying Spaghetti Monster. The best part: almost all are downloadable models and easy to assemble.

You just need to inform your e-mail address and they send the PDF link to you download each model. There are more two models to download directly: Zen in the Art of Cardboard and Which Came First?.

Blue Wyvern

The Museum of Fantastic Specimens is is an on-line collection of creatures “curated” by Hajime Emoto. All of the creatures showcased in the museum are sculpted from paper, modelling paste and bamboo. The whole site is in Japanese, with a little confusing navigation, but it worth a visit. (via the nonist)

Paper Roses

One more suggestion for Valentines' day: paper roses. DIY Maven give all the instructions of How to Fold a Paper Rose, with links to two tutorials, WikiHow and bloom4ever, and a video showing step by step of this not so papercraft work. For a final touch watch the videos of origamixpunk and follow the instructions. It's tough, but I bet it will worth in the end. (via !marty finestone’s activitybook)

BTW, I have a silly suggestion for a card to accompany the flowers:

Roses are #FF0000
Violets are #0000FF

Carlo Giovani

The very talented Brazilian, and maybe Paulistano, artist Carlo Giovani makes incredible 3D illustrations for magazines and advertising. Sometimes he plays with legumes and fruits, other times with Lego, other materials, but most of time with paper, creating articulated paper toys, paper dolls, crushed paper, mixing the paper techniques and a adding digital elements to his paper craft.

He also works making classic illustrations, digital infographics for magazines, prints and more. Don't forget to watch the beautiful TV commercial made for Elma Chips and the opening for the TV program Gordo Freak Show. (via Drawn!)

Papier-mâché elephant

Martin Klasch was kind enough to scan a vintage Swedish book of papier-mâché, probably printed in 1969. The catchy colours are going to get your attention, but if the Swedish instructions don't help a lot don't worry. Go to Papier Mache and solve all your doubts about this technique. BTW, can someone please do this cat to me? I'm terrible with those manual woks. Thanks!

Tetra Pak animation

The Taiwanese site of Tetra Pak has a super cute animation for TV campaign with its mascot: an adorable green box called Le Le Pak. The site by itself is lovely, with many small gifts, like wallpapers (I got one), emoticons, the TV commercial to download, screensaver, and other stuff, like the paper model of Le Le Pak to download with instructions.
