The Tell-Tale Heart

The Tell-Tale Heart

The Tell-Tale Heart is a wonderful animated short film of 1953 based on Edgar Allan Poe short-story. The story told by a mad man has a dark visual with a perfect work of narration by James Mason. It is a UPA Production and was the first cartoon to be X-rated (adults only) in Great Britain under the British Board of Film Censors classification system. Really great - you have to see it. I first saw this short film in 8mm sound format when I was just a kid running wild with my first movie camera and sound projector. All these years later I remember it vividly - it is quite simply great. It captures the essence of Poe in a stark and original way with a trace of the early pop art of the 1960s. A visual blast and the eloquently creepy tone of James Mason's narration is brilliant. I hit this blog in my search for trying to get a copy of it in digital format.
