Bibliochaise

The Italian company Nobody & Co designed the Bibliochaise, an armchairlibrary for who likes to be immersed in deep reading. It contains 5 linear metres of books and thanks to a special fitting structure is easily disassembled. It doesn't look very comfortable but the idea is brilliant enough to make me wish one. I grew up in a room full of books, of course I want a chair that chair, I love books! They also have cool models of bookcases, take a look. (via MoCo Loco)

City of biscuits

That is just a small part of the amazing installation Biscuit City with 12 metres long designed by the Chinese artist Song Dong using approximately 72,000 biscuits. The team spent six days of work to build the buildings, a football stadium and the suspension bridges. The installation built in February was placed next to the tea shop in the basement of the Oxford Street department store and is part of the China in London events aiming to promote Chinese culture. Who was there could it the biscuits, including digestives, chocolate digestives, rich tea, hobnobs, caramels and fruit shortcake with tea... just to think about it makes my mouth water. More about it at Guardian and BBC News, including a gallery of pictures. (via Slashfood)

Oh Dreidel...

I'm part of the group of people that loves South Park with all the sarcasm, all the not politically correct speech, the acid critic and the dirty words. Among the group of people that love the cartoon there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of homage sites, there is a guy that created a Kenny Translator, another guy that made a South Park Character generator and more guy that made a Manga version of the characters.

Hikaru Suzuhara is also a South Park fan. He created a blog with Kyle Broflovski as his profile name, and there he uploaded his Manga version of South Park characters. The gallery on his blog has a small, but very cool sample of his illustrations and drawings, most of them of Kyle. Check out.

Boots"

Dirty Dishes - custom ladies on latex. Yes, pin-up art on latex gloves painted with acrylic and framed under glass by Nicole Steen. Awesome! The gloves are "Objets D'Art", they are not meant to be worn or used practically as the site says, but I wouldn't care to wash the dishes with one of those gloves if I had many - and I hate to wash the dishes. What pin-up fan wouldn't love to have one of those Bettie Page Gloves or the Tura Satana Gloves? See also the other neat pop-art works of Nicole Steen. (via Jaf Project)

Idiom, opening

The Czech artist Matej Krén makes fantastic sculptures- installations using the books published in the place where them are being build. In 1994 he made an tower of books entitled Idiom for the XXII Bienal of São Paulo using books, lights and mirrors. In 2004 he build Passage for the Museum Kampa, two walls of books creating a way, a passage, constructed using again lights, books and mirrors. The project itself is a metaphorical synthesis of a number of formal semantic elements: an entrance, a path, "endless walls" of books, mirrors, light, an exit and even the physical presence of the viewers themselves.

In recent years his distinctive approach to sculpture, object, installation, drawing, print, painting, action art, film, music, sound and word has attracted attention at many prestigious international art shows.
His work not only touches on very contemporary problems, such as erasing the boundaries between reality and fiction, memory and the present, but also on classic themes in art - the relation between inner and outer, the part and the whole. Typical of his work is a searching for a complexity of content expressed in a monumental and comprehensible language.

Ultraman

I remember that Ultraman was amusing when I was a little girl. It was funny too, but "well done" never was a quality associated with it. After watched this video I changed my mind: the old episodes look so much better now. The choreography of that video was created to Tokusatsu Peru, the Peruvian version of Ultraman. It wasn't bad enough? Ok, so you must see the Ultraman version of Scatman song with Ultraman singing and dancing. After that you can watch again the old episodes to be sure that they weren't so bad. Not so bad, huh? (via Crazy Japan)

Since we are talking about Ultraman, visit also Ultraman Toys - the largest collection of Ultraman, his Family and other Japanese Super Hero toys on the web. The impressive collection of toys and memorabilia has items from 60's until nowadays.

Thomas Dolby

Hey, do you remember of Thomas Dolby? The first phrase that goes to my mind when I remember of him is "She Blinded Me With Science". What a great hit! Totally 80's. Well, he not only has a site, as well as a blog. Listen to your curiosity and go there to check out his latest news.

Plus: more Thomas Dolby videos at You Tube - Hyperactive!, Europa And The Pirate TwinsVersion 1 and Version 2.and Synthesizer Medley performed in 1985 for the Grammys with Thomas Dolby, Herbie Hancock, Howard Jones and Stevie Wonder.

Geek Pr0n

Paul Mutton has nice gallery of photos, including cat photos - I had to say that, sorry. But his most interesting work of photography is under the Experimental album, that has three very cool photo essays of nude and gadgets and hardware. Check out the sub-albums Geek Pr0n, Geek Pr0n 2.0 and Geek Pr0n 3.0. Probably NSFW. (via Sexe, love 'n gaudriole)

Jamais Le Premier Soir

A reader suggested an excellent artist, Edmond Kirazian, a.k.a. Kiraz. The illustrator and cartoonist worked for Playboy US and Canada for many years. He's most known for his series of works called "Les Parisiennes", stylized illustrations of women of Paris. Les Parisiennes are always elegant, sexy, insolent and clever.

Les Femmes by Kiraz

Last year there was an exhibition with his works, Kiraz, les Parisiennes et la mode in the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, Paris. The Journal Le Figaro made a short interview with Kiraz about it. If you weren't in Paris when the exhibition occurred, don't worry you can see his works in books or in sites.

Canderel Ad by Kiraz

This site has five galleries with Kiraz works: scanned images of book covers, posters, advertising, phone cards and other works. This other page has some nice images of his cartoons and ads for magazines. There is also a page with a miscellaneous slideshow. And, if you want to try drawing his Parisiennes, the page Les nymphettes de Kiraz ou le canon à 7 têtes has some tips and notes about Kiraz style. BTW, some of his illustrations may be considered NSFW by some.

Robbit, or Cybunny

What I should post before, it means yesterday or Sunday, but here it goes: Chop A Bunny from the Worth1000 contest - One rabbit + one blender. There are some nice results of photoshop works to celebrate the Easter. The contest finished yesterday with 51 entries. BTW, be careful with the evil pop-ups on that site.

PS.: I was busy those days with a test last week, reformatting the computer and reinstalling everything, including firefox and my thirty extension. Sunday I was running from Easter Bunny. (Thanks André!)

Peace Art Cambodia

The best use of guns that I ever seen: Transforming Weapons - Peace Art Cambodia.

In 1998, the Royal Government of Cambodia began tackling the proliferation of illegal and surplus small arms through an integrated programme. By 2006, over 160,000 small arms had been publicly destroyed in Flame of Peace ceremonies.
In October 2003, Peace Art Cambodia began a metalwork skills training programme for apprentice artisans using thousands of these weapons as raw material.

Crinloine Flower

The Canadian photographer Daryl Banks has a nice portfolio of black and white and coloured pictures. He primarily interested in fashion and fine art photography. Two must see series are Crinolines Flowers and Crinloines Macro - fetishists are going to love them. (via Hugo Strikes Back)

More legs in pictures: A Paris, les Elégantes.

Dreams of Flying

Dreams of flying is an interesting photo series by Jan Von Holleben. His personal work has been showcased in leading titles such as Creative Review, the Face, Sleazenation, The Independent and various others. He has won a number of photography awards in the UK including an Observer Hodge Photographic Award, a Lucie Award in NY and most recently an Audi-Next Level Photographic Award. Take a look too at his other series of photos. (via Aeiou, le blog de Flu)

Cowgirl by Gil Elvgren

Cowboy's Cowgirls: Here are a compilation of favourite cowboy's cowgirl pinups from the 1930s through the 1960s, as well as some contemporary. Illustrations by Gil Elvgren, George Petty, Ben-Hur Baz, Edward D'Anacona, Rolf Armstrong, new artists, drawings, paintings, cover of magazines and pictures. There are 17 pages (that I could open), so don't forget to click on "More Cowgirls" in the end of the pages to see the other galleries. (via IWR)

New York New York

NewYork NewYork is a collage style animation with a new remix version of the classic homonym song New York, New York immortalized by Frank Sinatra for the Scorsese's film with the same name. In the animation it isn't Sinatra singing, but it's a nice version of the song. The great and well done video was made by Cédric Ih, Lâm Le Thanh and Adrien Barbier-Lambert, students of EESA. (via Milk and Cookies)

BTW, if you've never watched New York, New York I recommend it to you. It's a brilliant film directed by Scorsese with great actings of Robert DeNiro and Lisa Minelli. It's one the films that made fall in love for the work of Martin Scorsese. And if you like the technique used on the video you must see the amazing Fast Film.

Circus

Bandes dessinées oubliées is an excellent site dedicated to vintage French comics forgotten. The database has hundreds of images of comics covers, images, links to sites, information about the cartoonist and their comics, ads in comics with the characters and many more cool stuff. One of the curiosities found on the site was Gainsbourg comics, with Isabelle Adjani et Jane Birkin, but there are only two page available, and Gazul et Cie, a comic book by Patrice Leconte made in the seventies.

The BD, the abbreviation of bande dessinée and the way that the French usually call the comics, present in the site are for all ages. There are Vaillant and Pif Gadget for the young people and children, Tintin for all ages and the comics for adults, like four comic books Circus, Vécu, Gomme and Gag Mag. BTW, some of the covers are probably NSFW, and it's a French site without any English version.

Airborne Cats

Last year I saw many pictures that people call of "jumping cats". There were pictures on everywhere, including Flickr, but nobody was sure about the origin of the photos. Today a friend sent me a link to a photoset on Flickr called airborne cats with 144 pictures of those jumping cats. The user Junku is uploading those since July of 2004 and the last updated was in the end of March. Probably he is the author of most (or all) of those images that are all over the Internet. I just want to know what is the food that he gives to his cats: I want to give a bit of it to mine. (Thanks Taiza!)

Airborne cats 2

PS.: it isn't the food, or not only the food, the reason why they jump is this toy. I need one of it.

Rat Race Clock

Take a look at this special post of TechEBlog: Top 20 Strangest Gadgets and Accessories. It's incredible of how many weird and not so useful things people create. Some of them are freaky too, per example the SkinBag, others are just too kitsch, like the "The Talking Lips". I just know that none of them will be find on my wish list, not even the Radio Toaster with a vintage style.

Reservoir Dogs in 30 seconds with bunnies

Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs became a classic. Today it's in the #65 position of IMDb Top 250, have a very good article at Wikipedia, a neat analysis in the always great Out of the Past and many other articles and reviews about his historical importance. And now, there is one more reason to immortalized the film: Reservoir Dogs in 30 seconds with bunnies unbleeped (language NSFW) and bleeped version. *Bleeping* great.

Gtalk with pictures

Did you see the latest news of Google Talk? Now you can set your own picture and see your friends' pictures, right from your friends list. And you can also customize the look of your chat conversations by choosing from a number of built-in themes. If you want to test the new features now, here is the instructions to add a picture and to change the theme of chat window. They are nice. I chose the "bubble picture" theme, but if you hated the new feature of pictures, choose a theme without them.

Gtalk - Chat with pictures and theme

Themes, pictures, what's next? I was talking with some friends about new cool features that they could do it. The first suggestion was tool to archive transfer. Since it's integrated with Gmail, could it be a good idea do it via Gmail. Other item that we miss is a conference option, to add more people to a conversation, instead of send the same message two, or three times and talk with a group of people, and not only one, like Skype allows. I would like also to leave a message to friends that aren't on-line. And finally, something that I heard a lot, the users of other IM miss: the emoticons. I can live without them, but I would like to see too more options in the messages, not only busy or available - with customised messages, like the other IM have.
