December 31, 2005

If you are lazy enough to make a list of 2006 resolutions, Geek-foo´ has the solution: The 2006 New Years Resolution Generator. The result doesn't look like my resolutions' list, but can be funny, like:

In the year 2006 I resolve to:
Make as many people hate me as I possibly can.

I didn't have a great year, but I have some good memories of this year. I could accomplish some of my New Year's Resolutions 2005 and among them , Change the layout of this blog will be next thing I'm going to do here (because the stupid IE can't understand my CSS and I have tried thousands of times). I met many cool blogs, talked to some amazing people from other countries, started a new blog about cinema, wrote about Cinema to a Azul Calcinha, had French classes, won many new readers (Thank you so much!), discovered many wonderful links and discovered a lot of new things about other countries and languages. But I won't miss 2005. Things are going to be much better this next year, I can feel that, or hope so!.

Just in time, here are my , and this time my expectations are smaller, so maybe this time I should be able to accomplish almost all of them:

- Find a job;
- Keep blogging;
- Do meditation;
- Read more books;
- Laugh much more;
- Go sleeping earlier;
- Improve my English;
- Post on Cinematógrafo;
- Visit more exhibitions;
- Watch much more films;
- Do any kind of exercise;
- Don't stay at home all day;
- Get my Italian citizenship;
- Move from this apartment;
- Try to be happy more often;
- Keep attending French classes;
- Manage my time in a better way;
- Pay more attention to my friends;
- Writing more reviews about films;
- Go walk at some park, sometimes;
- Try not to be so angry at some people;
- Drink more wine and eat less chocolate;
- Start to write a project to a future thesis;
- Blog much more, what means almost every day;
- Find more interesting links to post on this blog;
- Learn a new different language, like Chinese or Japanese;
- Travel to another country, and France looks like a great place to go;
- Keep in contact with the great people that I knew this year, including the bloggers;

And the most important: to still have fun blogging, talking to people and dicovering tons of interesting (and curious) things. Any other good thing that happen on the next year is extra. Let's cross the fingers so that 2006 be much better than 2005!

That Low-Down Feeling

Pin-Ups & Calendar Girls for your Bachelor Pad: Picture Gallery devoted to Gil Elvgren's Pin-Up & Calendar Girls.

Elvgren was one of the most important pin-up and glamour artists of the twentieth century. In addition, he was a classical American illustrator. He was a master of portraying the feminine, but he wasn't limited to the calendar pin-up industry.
[...]
...the Norman Rockwell of cheese-cake. His heroines are often caught in humorous but distressing situations. His exquisite oils of gorgeous girls-next door their skirts often blowing up to reveal lovely nylon-clad limbs rival his mentor Haddon Sundblom's "Coca-Cola" Santas for sheer nostalgic pleasure.

He made some remarkable pin-up images, like "Weighty Problem", "Bear Facts" and "The Right Touch", and Coca-Cola ads like "Just Like Old Times". More of his works can be found at Gil Elvgren, The Painted Anvil, Pin-Up Pages, The Pin-up Files, Mop Pin-up, including an unpublished illustration, Vanguard Gallery, Mutoworld and Spotlight on Golden Age Advertising. BTW, just few of his illustration works can be NSFW. (via dadanoias)

A Christmas Carol

Oops, sorry, I forgot to check out on Internet Archive if there was something more about Christmas before finish my last post about it. And now I need to post about one of the movie's version of Charles Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol". The film is Scrooge (A Christmas Carol), a 1951 version directed by Brian Desmond Hurst, with Alastair Sim, Kathleen Harrison, Mervyn Johns and Hermione Baddeley.

If you want the original, the book, there are many places where you can download it or read: Charles Dickens.org, Good Reading on Line, Literature, Project Gutenberg, Spark Notes and many others..

There are also audio versions of the "A Christmas Carol" on LibriVox, Project Gutenberg, part one, two and three (for children), The Penguin Podcast (available until the new year) and an old radio version at Radio Memories Network.

Some information about the book can be found at David Perdue's Charles Dickens Page, The Free Dictionary, The Victorian Web and Wikipedia.
